Carthage Jail

On Sunday, Kathie and Mike and Katelyn got to Nauvoo. Kathie spent the day in the hospital with Lauren, and Mike and Katelyn joined us. We went to church, took some more pictures at the temple, went to Carthage Jail, and ended the night at the Trail of Hope. We tried to catch some fireflies to take with us while we were there but it wasn't easy. I loved every part of Nauvoo and I think the kids did too, especially Josh who took the most interest in the history that was shared at all the sights. We were so sad about Lauren, but I'm so grateful we were able to make the trip!

More From Nauvoo

We had a lot of fun playing pioneer games in Nauvoo. That night we went to the pageant, which was really great, although we were sad Lauren wasn't in it.

Nauvoo Continued

Our second day there, we continued to explore Nauvoo which included some pictures in the Brigham Young house since Nate and the kids are direct descendants of Brigham Young.

Nauvoo Trip

At the end of July, we took a trip to Illinois to see the church history sights in Nauvoo and also to see my niece Lauren perform with the Young Performing Missionaries there. Unfortunately, Lauren was taken to the hospital the day we got there and ultimately ended up going home early. She was really sick and wasn't able to perform with the other missionaries again. We visited her in the hospital and tried to help communicate with Kathie and Mike until they were able to get there.

We saw some Mark Twain sights on our way to Nauvoo and tried frog legs and chicken and waffles at the restaurant in town (the frog legs were gross, FYI). In Nauvoo, Nate, Lia and Laura got to do baptisms for the dead in the temple which was really cool. I loved the Women's Garden at the visitors center and the kids loved the midwest farmlands, the fireflies at night, and the little cabin where we stayed.
