We spent the 24th of July at a neighborhood party. It was the first time our neighborhood had done it and it was a lot of fun. We also spent a day at our park where my kids and their cousins dammed up the creek and floated down it in our kayaks. It was all fun and games until a farmer downstream came to see what was holding up his water. He nicely asked us to get rid of the dam. Thankfully I had run home to grab something so I didn't have to talk to the farmer I might run into down the road sometime. But it was great while it lasted!
Lastly and most importantly, Nate did a 109 mile ride through Panguitch and Bryce Canyon called the Deperado Duel. He had been wanting to do it for a long time. His asthma diagnosis in May derailed his training, but he still did it. It was a long, hard, lonely ride. He was hoping to do it with Cameron, but Cameron tore his ACL earlier in the year and decided to do the 50 mile ride instead with Sarah and Jared, which meant they turned around at the 25 mile mark and Nate did the last 84 miles alone. I should have done it with him, but I didn't feel ready and I wanted it to be his thing. But as we were driving some of the course on our way out of town and Nate told me how long and lonely it was, I felt terrible. When I did my 100 mile ride, I only did 20 miles alone. The next time he decides to do something like that and needs a partner, I will do it with him! I was so proud of him. When he wants to do something, he does it!
