Last Days in Hilton Head

On our last night in Hilton Head, we went to the beach one more time. The next morning we started celebrating Megan's birthday and got ready to go. She got to open a few presents and then we put it on hold until we got home when we were going to finish celebrating. On our way out, we saw one more alligator. We were sad to leave, but also ready to go home. Little did we know we would end up spending one more night away before we made it home. Our plane was delayed in South Carolina so we missed our connection out of Denver and had to spend the night in a crappy hotel there. I was mad and Megan cried. It was her birthday after all and she wanted to be home. But, we survived and it was a really fun vacation all together!

More from Hilton Head

My favorite part about our trip to Hilton Head was our lack of a schedule. When we wanted to go to the beach, we went to the beach. When we wanted to go on a bike ride and then swimming and then on a bike ride again, we did. And when we went swimming, I actually swam. I don't love swimming and the kids know it and when we go, I try to swim as little as possible without looking like I'm not swimming. But this time I tried to be a "fun mom" and actually swim and get my hair wet. I practiced not plugging my nose and doing handstands under the water with Megan. And, it was actually fun! Imagine that. Nate tried to teach us all to dive again unsuccessfully (he tried last summer too). Josh was probably the best at it. We had a great time playing and exploring.

Shark Fishing

The next day we went shark fishing. Some of us get motion sickness, so we all took non-drowsy Dramamine. The non-drowsy did not work. Some of us slept through most of the excursion.  Thankfully Nate kept the conversation going with the guides. When a shark was on the line, they would wake one of us up to come reel it in. It was super cool to catch the sharks. Next time maybe we'll skip the Dramamine. That night we went to a really fun place for dinner. It was right on the water and they had fun games to play while we waited for our table. The food was good too. Although after that night, I think we all decided we were good to take a break from hush puppies for a little while.
